Flying Flowers in the Garden
Butterfly gardens are a wonderful addition to any landscape, adding energy, movement, color, and life to the garden throughout the year. Butterfly gardens can range from a few basic plants in a sunny corner, to a full landscape full of flowers, trees, and shrubs devoted to the butterfly life-cycle.
The basic butterfly garden should consist of two types of plants, larva host plants upon which the caterpillars feed, and nectar plants which supply food for the adult butterflies.
Below are listed some basic butterfly garden plants which are also suitable for use in the home garden and landscape:
