Landscape Design exclusively for residences

from Tropical Jungle to Xeriscape and from Formal Gardens to Wildlife Habitats

 designtropical

Whatever style of landscape you seek, your design will be crafted to achieve a balance of form and function, and will always be made with the sustainability of the landscape and working with the local environment in mind.

With water conservation a top priority nowadays, we are more conscious than ever about designing with xeriscape principals at all times. However; xeriscape doesn't mean you must plant cacti and desert plants. Xeriscape means creating water-wise landscapes, by using plants which are appropriate for the local environment. Even lush tropical plants can be used in a xeriscape, if the location is appropriate for such plants.

By designing with nature, instead of fighting it: we can create lasting gardens which demand less water, fertilizer, and pesticide use. This saves time, money, and helps the environment, all while creating a beautiful place to unwind, relax and enjoy.

The Landscape Design Process

When contracted to do landscape design work, I create landscape designs in two forms, hand drawn sketches and full cad designs. These can be for installation by The Green Man, homeowner DIYers, or for installation by other landscape contractors.

Sketches are used where exact measurements and plant quantities aren't needed, and when there is little or no hardscaping involved in the design. They give the installer an overview of the area, and specify where plant material is to be planted. These drawings are not to exact scale, but are perfectly adequate for most plantscaping jobs.

The design process consists of an initial meeting where we discuss the particulars of the design, and an second meeting where the design is delivered and discussed with the client.

Cad designs are useful where hardscaping is involved, where the design is large or complex, or where the job will be put out to bid. They come with complete materials lists and multiple detail drawings included. Planting instructions, plant specifications, and plant material location information is also available as an optional feature.

The design process for these designs consists of an initial meeting where design elements and concepts are determined. This is followed by a second meeting where two different concept drawings are presented and ideas discussed. At this meeting the client decides which of the two proposals to develop further. The finished plan is presented at the third meeting. The plan will be discussed and will be delivered in both paper copy and in digital (PDF) Portable Document Format.
